Twilight Book Review: Twilight "gleaming" for dads

I enjoyed this review by Dave Richards, who says Twilight by Stephenie Meyer has been good for him and his daughter:

"Twilight" is your basic star-crossed love story in the tradition of "Romeo & Juliet." How hard it is to be so in love but know you should not, cannot, must not consummate it. In an age when teens are inundated with crass songs and movies that push sex, "Twilight" encourages restraint while acknowledging how difficult that can be. It's one reason parents have embraced it.

We couldn't agree more! Read the full review here.

Twilight Book Review: LDSFiles.com

LDSFiles.com reviewed Twilight by Stephenie Meyer and says:

I suggest to all mothers out there, that they should be careful with letting their children or early teens read it. It portrays relationships in a way that is not healthy. The main characters are obsessive, predatory, controlling and driven. Would we be okay with letting our daughter's boyfriend stay in her bedroom with her all night? With her sneaking out and not being truthful with where she is going and what she is doing? And with whom? Just because he's a vampire and doesn't have the same motivations - doesn't make it safe. The father comes across as an idiot in this book and the daughter has no respect for him and his boundaries. Is that how we want our teenagers to view us? I think the same parental guidelines should be taken with this as with a movie or other suggestive subject matter. Parents should talk with their children about what is good and healthy, real and not. The addictive characteristics of this book should not be overlooked. Readers should not be impressionable. I like to compare it to a soap opera: very addictive, but very little substance.

Twilight Book Review: LAist.com

Here's a snippet from the Twilight book review from the LAist.com website:

Twilight is the first installment in the series of the same name that has generated an upcoming motion picture, as well as borderline hysteria in the hearts of mostly female teens and adults alike. After watching two or three friends get sucked into the madness (and only one of them a fan of teen fiction), an investigation seemed called for. The movie trailer looked decent; the fantasy of hot-vampire-falls-for-ordinary-girl was not totally unappealing.

And no, Twilight is certainly not. Meyer's writing is nothing literary fans will deign to read, but, much like Harry Potter, the story and characters, and certainly her uncanny abilities with suspense, will suck your average reader right in ...

Twilight Book Review for Parents (CommonSenseMedia.org)

The book review from the well-respected parental guide - Commonsensemedia.org:

This is the downside to Harry Potter. Before J. K. Rowling smashed the page limits to smithereens, no publisher in their right mind would have allowed this book to be nearly 500 pages. It would have been cut down substantially, and it would have been a better story for it. This incredibly long book is really two books. The first two-thirds is a fairly engrossing, if not terribly imaginative, vampire romance, with lots of smoldering eyes, palpitating hearts, mood swings, and a nice touch of fantasy. Then in the final third it turns into an action-thriller, as another vampire sets his sights on Bella. Despite its length it is very readable, though it's all too easy to read a hundred pages, enjoy it, and then ...

Twilight Book Review: LoveVampires.com

The website LoveVampires.com has this review on their site:

Twilight is the story of Edward and Bella’s romance. Forget any vampire romance you have read before, Twilight is so unique it is almost like it’s in its own genre. The book is marketed at Young Adult readers but it has the ability to cross age barriers and will satisfy both teenagers and adults alike. The story is told in first person from the perspective of Bella, so the reader only ever know what she knows, making Edward and his family a mystery that is slowly unravelled through out the book. Even by the end of the book ...
