WHAA??? Did anyone see this coming?
Stephenie Meyer announced today the upcoming release of a new "novella" titled The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. And what's more? She's going to make the whole book available to read for FREE online.
Seriously awesome stuff; here's what Stephenie says about it:
Actually, this has been a surprise to me, too. The reason why it's a surprise was that I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book. I began this story a long time ago—before Twilight was even released. Back then I was just editingEclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree's perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.
This story was something that I worked on off and on for a while, just for fun, in between the times I was writing or editing other Twilight novels. Later, when the concept for The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide came up, I thought that might be a good place for Bree. Her story is a nice complement to Eclipse; it explains a lot of the things that Bella never knew.
Then I got the news: my "short story" was nearly 200 pages long when typeset. It was too long to fit into the Guide—without ending up with a tome as heavy as the Oxford English Dictionary. My publisher approached me with the idea of releasing the Bree story on its own. One of the major benefits of this plan was that it would be out before the movie, so people would get to know Bree before they saw her in the film. That made sense to me, and we decided to go ahead with it.

Some quotes from Renee Dwyer from Eclipse of the Twilight book series by Stephenie Meyer.
There’s something… strange about the way you two are together. The way he watches you — it’s so… protective. Like he’s about to throw himself in front of a bullet to save you or something.
Renée Dwyer, Eclipse, Chapter 3, p.67
He’s very intense about you… and very careful. I feel like I don’t really understand your relationship. Like there’s some secret I’m missing…
Renée Dwyer, Eclipse, Chapter 3, p.67
The way you move — you orient yourself around him without even thinking about it. When he moves, even a little bit, you adjust your position at the same time. Like magnets… or gravity. You’re like a… satellite, or something.
Renée Dwyer, Eclipse, Chapter 3, p.68
Emmett Cullen quotes from Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer.
I’m really glad Edward didn’t kill you. Everything’s so much more fun with you around.
Emmett Cullen, Eclipse, Chapter 4, p.93
Fall down again, Bella?
Emmett Cullen, Eclipse, Chapter 15, p.342
I’ll try not to break anything.
Emmett Cullen, Eclipse, Chapter 18, p.394
This is making me sick, Jacob. Can you imagine what this feels like to me? I don’t even like Bella Swan. And you’ve got me grieving over this leech-lover like I’m in love with her, too. Can you see where that might be a little confusing? I dreamed about kissing her last night! What the hell am I supposed to do with that?
Leah Clearwater, Eclipse, Epilogue, p.622
There’s something about Edward. He’s always so… confident. I have a feeling he can take care of himself.
