Stephenie Meyer is a Brigham Young University graduate who is married with and three boys. She lives in Phoenix, Arizona. After the publication of her first novel, Twilight, booksellers chose Stephenie Meyer as one of the "most promising new authors of 2005" (Publishers Weekly).
The inspiration for writing Twilight came to Meyer in an unusual way. She had a dream about a vampire who was in love with a teen girl, but he craved her blood. Meyer put her dream to paper and came up with what is today the 13th chapter of Twilight the book.
Spending three months writing the entire novel, she signed a three-book deal with Little, Brown, and Company, and the first book was released in 2005.
Twilight quickly gained recognition and won numerous honors, including:
- A New York Times Editor's Choice
- A Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year
- An Amazon "Best Book of the Decade...So Far"
- A Teen People "Hot List" pick
- An American Library Association "Top Ten Best Book for Young Adults" and "Top Ten Books for Reluctant Readers"
- Has been translated into 20 languages
Following Twilight, Meyer continued the story as the Twilight series with New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.
Stephenie Meyer has stated that Breaking Dawn would be her last book written from the perspective of Bella Swan's perspective. She intended to write Midnight Sun as Edward Cullen's side of the story, but an online leak of a rough draft of the first half of the book caused Meyer to postpone the project indefinitely. On November 20, 2008, the Twilight movie release date, the book was released as a major motion picture, with a cast of Kristen Stewart playing Bella Swan, and Robert Pattinson playing Edward Cullen.
